The Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple is the principal Hindu temple of Alappuzha and the presiding deity of the town. The temple dates back several centuries and is dedicated to Rajarajeswari, a form of the goddess Parvati. The October festival here — Mullakkal Chirappu — is one of the biggest local events of the year, with processions, traditional arts performances, and a large fair.
The temple complex is in the heart of the old town. Visitors are expected to dress modestly; non-Hindus may not be permitted inside the inner sanctum but can walk around the outer compound and observe the activity.
