Kanakakkunnu Palace

Kanakakkunnu Palace was the summer residence of the Travancore royal family, built in the early 20th century on a hilltop that gives it commanding views over the city. The palace building itself is a modest Kerala-colonial hybrid structure, but the grounds are what make it worth visiting — a terraced garden with fountains, lawns, and good views over the surrounding city.

The palace grounds are now a public cultural venue and host some of the most important events in the city's calendar, including the Nishagandhi Dance and Music Festival. Cultural performances, including classical Kathakali and dance recitals, are held here regularly in the evening. If you are in Thiruvananthapuram during a performance, this is an excellent setting to watch.
