Kowdiar Palace

Travancore royal palace in leafy Kowdiar, viewed mainly from outside its gates.

Kowdiar Palace is the best-known royal residence associated with the former Travancore ruling family in Thiruvananthapuram. Set in the greener northern part of the city, it is part of a landscape of royal roads, older estates, and civic buildings that still shapes the capital’s character.

The palace is not generally a walk-in visitor attraction, so the experience is mostly architectural and contextual from outside. It still earns a place for travelers interested in Travancore history, especially when paired with Kanakakkunnu Palace, the Napier Museum area, and Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
