Soochipara — also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls — is a three-tiered waterfall about 20km from Kalpetta in the Vellarimala area. The falls drop about 200m in total, and the third and lowest tier, accessible by a trail through the forest, is the most impressive. There is a pool at the base where swimming is possible when water levels are safe.
The trail from the road to the falls takes about 30-40 minutes through dense forest. The path is well-maintained but slippery in places; wear shoes with grip. Entry tickets and mandatory life jackets for the swimming pool are sold at the entrance. The falls are at their most powerful during and just after the monsoon (August-October); in the dry season they diminish but remain attractive. Busy on weekends; weekday mornings are quieter.
