Teli ka Mandir

Tall, unusual temple inside the fort, mixing north and south Indian architectural forms.

Teli ka Mandir is one of the fort's strangest buildings, and that makes it worth seeking out. Its high barrel-vaulted roof and vertical mass do not fit the standard image of a north Indian temple, while the doorway and wall details carry familiar sculptural language.

The temple is usually discussed for its mix of Nagara and Dravidian elements, but you do not need the terminology to enjoy it. Stand back first to take in the silhouette, then move close to the doorway, where the surviving carving gives the severe tower some human scale.
