Hanumantal Lake and Jain Temple

Hanumantal lake is a large urban lake in northern Jabalpur, surrounded by temples and used by locals for morning walks and evening socialising. At one end of the lake, the Bada Jain Mandir (Large Jain Temple) is an elaborately decorated complex with white marble facades, ornate carvings, and a serene courtyard atmosphere.

The lake and temple area is at its most pleasant early in the morning or in the early evening, when the light on the water and the sound of temple bells create a contemplative atmosphere. The area around the lake is a functional public park — families, joggers, and vendors — and gives a good sense of ordinary Jabalpur life away from the tourist circuit.

A story
The Hanumantal Bada Jain Mandir is one of the most ornate Jain temples in Madhya Pradesh, built at the edge of a large urban lake that gives the temple its watery, reflective approach. The main idol, a large black stone Jain tirthankara figure, is said to be ancient. The temple complex is one of the few major Jain pilgrimage sites in central India not associated with Rajasthan or Gujarat.
