The most enjoyable way to reach Alibaug is the catamaran or RoRo ferry from the Gateway of India in Mumbai — about an hour across the harbour to Mandwa jetty, followed by a 20-minute connecting bus or auto-rickshaw to Alibaug town. Services run every hour or two during daylight; the last sailing back is usually late afternoon.
By road, the drive from Mumbai is roughly 100 km via Panvel and the Mumbai-Pune expressway, two to three hours depending on traffic. The road can be very slow on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons in season. State transport buses and shared taxis run from Mumbai's Panvel and Borivali stations.
