The largest and most diverse suburb in Mumbai's western corridor, where the city truly becomes a collection of separate urban villages rather than a single centre. Andheri is where the airport sits, where a significant portion of the film production industry is based (the Film City studios are nearby in Goregaon), and where the western suburbs have their most fully developed commercial life in the strip running east-west through the suburb.
Andheri West — particularly the area around Versova and Aram Nagar — has a significant concentration of actors, directors, and production workers who work in the nearby studios, giving the neighbourhood a particular energy and a good range of restaurants and cafes. Versova Beach, at the western end of the suburb, is one of the cleaner beaches in Mumbai after a celebrated community clean-up project beginning in 2015. The suburb also contains the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, whose boundaries reach into Andheri and whose leopard population occasionally makes itself known at the urban edges.
