Day Trips

The most popular day trip from Nashik is Trimbakeshwar (28 km west), where the Jyotirlinga temple and the source of the Godavari River draw pilgrims year-round. Shirdi (90 km southeast), the home of the Sai Baba shrine, is a straightforward drive and one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India — expect crowds on Thursdays and during festival periods.

Anjaneri Hills, about 20 km west of Nashik near Trimbakeshwar, are traditionally associated with the birthplace of Lord Hanuman and offer good trekking with wide views over the Deccan plateau. The Nandur Madhmeshwar bird sanctuary, 60 km from the city, is worth the detour from October to March when migratory birds are present.

For something completely different from the temples, the wineries north and west of the Gangapur Dam — including Sula, York, and several smaller estates — are 15–20 minutes from the city centre and can be visited as a half-day excursion.
