Upvan Lake is the quieter of Thane's two central lakes, located a few kilometres west of Masunda in a more residential neighbourhood. The lakeside area has been developed with a garden, jogging track, and a small children's play area. It is popular with early morning walkers and joggers from the surrounding apartment blocks, giving it a more locally flavoured atmosphere than the more tourist-aware Masunda waterfront.
The lake is particularly pleasant in the winter months (November to February) when migratory birds pass through and the surrounding trees are at their greenest. A small café operates near the lake entrance. Access is by auto-rickshaw or road from the Thane station area; the lake is about 4 kilometres from the main railway station.
