Thane is not a conventional tourist destination, but it has enough to justify a half-day or full day if you are based in Mumbai and want to escape the city's intensity. The lakes are the main draw — particularly Masunda Lake in the town centre and the quieter Upvan Lake to the west. The Kopineshwar temple is one of the oldest religious sites in the Konkan, and the surrounding district has some accessible coastal and forested areas.
