Kathgarh Temple, about 22 kilometres southeast of Pathankot near the town of Kathua, is one of the most important Shiva shrines in the region and a significant pilgrimage destination. The temple houses an extraordinary Ardhnarishwar Shivalingam — a single stone naturally divided into two halves, one representing Shiva and the other Parvati, symbolising the inseparable union of masculine and feminine divine principles.
The temple sits beside the Beas River, and the riverbank setting adds to the atmosphere. The complex is peaceful except on major festival days, particularly Shivaratri in February or March, when it becomes the scene of a large and colourful fair. For travellers passing through Pathankot, this is worth a short detour — hire a taxi or take one of the frequent buses south toward Kathua and ask to be dropped at the Kathgarh turn-off.
