Pathankot's own sights are modest, but the district rewards those willing to venture beyond the railway station. The old fort at Shahpur Kandi overlooks the Ravi River, temples dot the foothills, and Ranjit Sagar Lake — a vast reservoir on the Ravi — draws birdwatchers and boaters. The countryside around the town is greener and hillier than most of the Punjab plains, and the Shivalik ridges just to the north give the district an air that is somewhere between the flatlands and the mountains proper.
