Jaisalmer is a good place to buy Rajasthani crafts, particularly textiles, embroidery, and silver jewellery. The lanes inside and immediately below the fort have numerous small shops selling block-printed cotton, mirror-work fabric, camel-leather goods, and decorative items. Prices start high and respond to bargaining. The wholesale market near the Amar Sagar Pol gate has lower starting prices than the tourist shops in the fort lanes.
Be cautious with antiques — a great deal of what is sold as old is new, and genuine antiques cannot legally be exported from India. Textiles and silver are generally safer and the quality is often excellent.
