Umed Bhawan Palace is a grand early 20th-century palace on the outskirts of Kota, built by the maharaja as a more comfortable residence than the old fort. The building is a confident blend of Rajput and European neoclassical elements — arched verandas, cupolas, and a formal garden — typical of the ambitious building programmes undertaken by the Rajput states in the colonial era.
Part of the palace is now a heritage hotel; the remainder is a museum open to visitors, with displays of vintage cars, arms, and royal household objects. The garden is well maintained and pleasant to walk in.
