Banjhakri Falls is a striking waterfall about four kilometres from the centre of Gangtok, set in a forested ravine and developed into a recreation park with sculptures, gardens, and walkways. The falls drop about 40 metres into a pool below, and the park surrounding them draws on Sikkimese folk tradition — the name refers to the Banjhakri, a shaman figure from local mythology depicted in several large bronze statues around the grounds.
The park has an entry fee and is somewhat commercial in feel, but the waterfall is genuinely impressive, particularly during the monsoon months. It is an easy taxi ride from the town centre and makes a pleasant half-morning excursion before the afternoon clouds roll in.
