Pelling is most commonly reached from Gangtok — the journey by shared jeep or taxi takes four to five hours along mountain roads. The route via Legship and Geyzing (also called Gyalshing) is the standard approach from the east.
From Darjeeling or Siliguri (the nearest major railhead) the journey takes around four to five hours by jeep. A permit is not required for Pelling itself, though Inner Line Permits are needed for certain areas of Sikkim further west near the Tibetan border. Most guesthouses in Pelling can arrange onward transport to Yuksom or Gangtok.
