Mahabalipuram's Maritime Museum is a small modern museum with ship and boat models, a Silk Route gallery, and a submarine simulator. It gives a broader sea-trade context to a town better known for Pallava temples and rock-cut monuments.
It is not the main reason to come to Mahabalipuram, but it can be useful on a hot afternoon or with children after visiting the nearby heritage sites.
