Lal Tibba

Highest point in Mussoorie with telescopes trained on the distant Himalayan peaks

Lal Tibba, at the far end of the Landour ridge, is the highest point in the Mussoorie area at around 2,275 metres. On a clear winter or autumn morning, the views from here of the high Himalaya are exceptional — telescopes set up at the summit can resolve individual peaks including Nanda Devi, Bandarpunch, and the summits above Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The walk up from Landour Bazaar takes about half an hour. The summit has the Indian Meteorological Department's observatory and the telecommunications tower that defines the Mussoorie skyline. The path is fairly quiet compared to the main town sights — most visitors don't bother walking this far, which is a reason to do so.
