Janaki Setu (Janaki Jhula)

Janaki Setu, also known as Janaki Jhula, is the newest of Rishikesh's suspension bridges over the Ganges, completed in 2022 and now carrying most of the foot traffic that previously crossed on the older Laxman Jhula bridge (which was closed for repairs in 2019). The new bridge is wider and more stable than its famous neighbours, and its greater load capacity means it can handle the volume of pilgrims and tourists without the bounce and sway of the older iron bridges.

The bridge connects Muni Ki Reti on the west bank with the area just downstream of Swarg Ashram on the east. It is less atmospheric than Laxman Jhula or Ram Jhula — there is no century of mythology attached to it yet — but the views from the centre of the bridge over the fast-running Ganges with forested hills behind are as good as from any crossing in Rishikesh.
