Matha Kuar Shrine

Matha Kuar Shrine is a small Buddhist site associated with a seated Buddha image carved from a single block of stone. It sits close enough to the main pilgrimage area to visit on foot, but it receives fewer casual visitors than the Parinirvana Temple.

The shrine is valuable because it rounds out the historical landscape of Kushinagar. Rather than one isolated monument, you begin to see a network of remembered places tied to the Buddha's final journey and the later Buddhist communities that preserved those memories.
