Curzon Gate, officially Bijoy Toran, stands at one of Bardhaman's busiest junctions, where its princely past meets the everyday chaos of GT Road. Maharaja Bijoy Chand Mahtab built it in 1903 to mark Lord Curzon's visit, but after independence the name changed to a Bengali "victory gate."
The arch is worth a close look. Lions sit above the side arches, while three female figures over the central span hold a sword, a boat, and sheaves of grain: a neat summary of power, trade, and the fertile Burdwan plains.
