Sarbamangala Temple is Bardhaman's most important Hindu shrine, dedicated to a local form of the goddess Durga. The temple is especially busy during Bengali religious festivals, when the courtyard fills with flowers, bells, and long lines of worshippers.
For travellers, the attraction is less architectural spectacle than living ritual. Go early or late in the day, when the heat is easier and the temple lanes are at their most atmospheric.
