Jorbangla Temple

Twin-hut brick temple whose walls carry unusually fine Bengal terracotta storytelling.

Jorbangla Temple, or Kestorai Temple, is the most elegant lesson in Bishnupur's local architecture. Its form joins two curved Bengal hut roofs, then crowns them with a small tower, making the building feel rooted in village forms rather than imported temple geometry.

The terracotta panels are among the finest in town. Ships, warriors, gods, musicians, and epic scenes crowd the walls, and the carving is sharp enough that it rewards a slow circuit rather than a quick photograph from the gate.
