Binodini Theatre

Binodini Theatre, formerly known as Star Theatre, is one of the landmarks of commercial Bengali theatre. Its history is tied to the rise of modern stage culture in Kolkata and to Binodini Dasi, the celebrated 19th-century actor after whom the theatre is now named.

The theatre also has a place in early Indian film history: some of the first motion pictures made in Bengal were screened here. It is a worthwhile stop for visitors tracing north Kolkata's literary, theatrical, and reform-era heritage around Bagbazar and Jorasanko.
