Samriddhi Bhavan

Samriddhi Bhavan is the regional headquarters of the State Bank of India, but the reason to visit is its small State Bank Archives and Museum. The displays trace the long history of Indian banking, from the Bank of Calcutta in 1806 through the Bank of Bengal, the Imperial Bank of India, and the modern SBI.

The museum is strongest on documents, memorabilia, murals, and dioramas connected with finance in colonial and modern Bengal. It also gives an unexpected look at the personal finances of figures such as Rabindranath Tagore and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.
