The Cathedral of Christ the King sits on the western edge of Krishnanagar and is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Krishnagar, founded in 1886. It is a striking pink-and-cream building in a loose Italianate style, with a tall central tower, twin side chapels, and a remarkably calm enclosure of gardens and seminary buildings around it.
The cathedral is unusual for the depth of Catholic presence in this part of West Bengal, which goes back to Portuguese and later Italian missionary work along the river systems of central Bengal. Sunday Masses are well attended; visitors are welcome at other times if they ask at the rectory.
