Devil's Tear

Devil's Tear is the island's most dramatic land-based sight: a rough limestone outcrop where Indian Ocean swells hit the cliffs and burst into spray. In the right conditions the blowback rises several metres, turning the whole ledge into a cloud of salt water.

It is also the place on Lembongan where caution matters most. The rocks are sharp, wet, and exposed to unpredictable waves. Watch from a dry distance, keep children away from the edge, and do not step down onto the lower ledges for a photograph.

A story
Devil's Tear is spectacular because the cliffs are undercut by the sea: waves slam into cavities below the rock and explode upward through cracks and ledges. The same force makes the site dangerous. Visitors have been knocked down or swept from wet rocks, so stay well back from the edge even when the sea looks calm.
