Candi Gunung Wukir is an early Hindu temple site on a hill in the Kedu Plain, older in atmosphere than many of the better-known Buddhist monuments around Borobudur. The remains are modest, but the setting and antiquity make it worthwhile for travellers tracing Central Java's temple landscape.
It is best for people who already have an interest in archaeology and do not need every site to be monumental. Combine it with other smaller temples around Magelang rather than comparing it directly with Borobudur.
