In the old colonial district of Kota, this museum holds one of the most complete collections of wayang (shadow puppets) in the world — Javanese, Balinese, Sundanese, and puppets from elsewhere in Asia. The building itself dates to 1912 and served as the Dutch East India Company church before becoming a museum. Wayang kulit (leather puppets) and wayang golek (wooden rod puppets) are both well represented. Open Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 9:00–15:00, Friday 9:00–11:30, Saturday 9:00–13:00; closed Monday.
