Pangandaran Beach

Broad black-sand beach where local holiday crowds swim, surf, and eat seafood near sunset.

Pangandaran Beach is the town's front room. It is a broad strip of dark volcanic sand, busy on weekends and Indonesian holidays, with surf schools, food stalls, and fishing boats adding to the scene.

Swimming conditions change with the surf and current, so follow local advice rather than assuming the water is gentle. At sunset the beach is at its best, when families come out and the heat drops.
