Salatiga is not a major tourist destination, but its location on the slopes of Mount Merbabu gives it a pleasant, cool climate that makes it a good rest stop on the road between Semarang and Solo. The town has a relaxed university atmosphere, good local food, and a few colonial-era buildings worth a look.
