Senaru is a village at the northern foot of Mount Rinjani, the main departure point for treks approaching from the north side. The village itself is interesting — a traditional Sasak settlement with stilted wooden houses and a weaving cooperative — but the main draw is the pair of waterfalls accessible on a 30-minute forest walk from the village.
Sindang Gila waterfall is a powerful single-drop waterfall that throws spray 20–30 metres in every direction; the mist keeps the surrounding forest dripping and cool. A further 20-minute walk upstream leads to Tiu Kelep, a more accessible waterfall with a pool deep enough to swim in. The path passes through dense forest, and black monkeys are often visible in the trees above. Day visitors who are not trekking Rinjani can come to Senaru for the waterfalls and the village alone.
