Ambon is served by Pattimura International Airport (AMQ), with regular direct flights to Jakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, and other major Indonesian cities on Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Batik Air. Flying time from Jakarta is about 3.5 hours. From Bali, expect a connection through Makassar or Surabaya.
Within Maluku, Ambon is the main hub for ferries and fast boats to the outer islands — Banda, Seram, Ternate, Buru, and the Kei Islands are all reached from the city's main ferry terminal at Yos Sudarso harbour. PELNI operates long-distance shipping routes that connect Ambon to other parts of eastern Indonesia; these are slow but an experience in themselves.
