Ambon has two distinct seasons shaped by monsoon patterns. The wet season runs from May to September, when the western monsoon brings rain and rough seas — this affects ferry connections to the outer islands and can limit diving visibility. The dry season from October to April is the better time to visit, with calmer seas, clearer skies, and the best conditions for diving and beach activities.
October through December is generally considered the prime diving season, when visibility can exceed 20 metres and the water is warm throughout. The period around Christmas and New Year is busy with Indonesian domestic tourists; book accommodation in advance if visiting then.
