Frans Kaisiepo Airport

The main airport serving Biak and the surrounding islands, named after Frans Kaisiepo, a prominent Papuan leader and later Governor of Irian Jaya (1964–1973) who advocated for the integration of West New Guinea into Indonesia. The airport has a single runway and handles regular flights to Jayapura, Makassar, and occasionally Jakarta and other Indonesian cities.

The airport was built on the site of the wartime Mokmer Airfield, one of the primary objectives of the 1944 American assault on Biak. Control of the airfield was essential for extending American air power westward along the northern coast of New Guinea, and the battle to capture it was far more costly than Allied commanders had anticipated due to the Japanese cave defence system. A few remnants of the wartime infrastructure can still be seen in the vicinity of the airport. Domestic flights are the primary form of transport connection; the airport is about 5 km from Biak town centre.
