On the north coast of Biak, Korem Beach has traditionally been associated with pearl harvesting — the clear, deep water of the bay supports pearl oyster beds that have been worked by local communities for generations. The beach itself is quieter and less developed than Bosnik, and the snorkelling and diving in the surrounding water is considered excellent, with reef walls dropping steeply into the deep water of the bay.
Reaching Korem requires either a drive on roads that deteriorate away from the main coastal highway, or a boat from Bosnik. The combination of relative inaccessibility and beautiful water makes it a good destination for travellers who want to get beyond the most-visited sites. Local fishermen sometimes offer boat trips to the offshore reef structures; negotiate directly at the beach. Bring everything you need as there are very limited facilities.
