A small thermal bathing complex in the village of Air Hangat, ten kilometres north of Sungai Penuh. The water comes out of the ground at around 80°C and is cooled and piped into a series of concrete pools. The facility is simple, run by the local government, and used mostly by Kerinci families.
The pools are open from early morning to early evening, with separate sections for men and women. Bring a sarong and a towel. The setting — rice paddies and tea plantations stretching to the foot of Kerinci — is the appeal, alongside the soak itself. Best in the chilly mornings of the upland valley.
