The pull is the national park: a long thin strip of cloud forest, lakes, and volcanoes running down the spine of central Sumatra. Mount Kerinci dominates everything, with the caldera lake of Gunung Tujuh just to its north and tea plantations stretching across the valley floor below. The main trails are guided multi-day affairs through tiger habitat; quieter visitors stick to the hot springs, waterfalls, and the small regional capital of Sungai Penuh.
