Lakey Beach, in the Dompu Regency on Sumbawa's south coast, is one of the best-known surf spots in eastern Indonesia. The beach produces powerful and consistent right-hand and left-hand reef breaks that work across a range of swell sizes, making it suitable for intermediate to expert surfers. International surf competitions have been held here, and a small surf community of guesthouses, warungs, and board-repair shops has grown up around the beach.
The beach itself — white sand, clear water, a view of volcanic hills inland — is also pleasant for non-surfers, though the water conditions at the main break are not always suitable for swimming. The drive from Sumbawa Besar takes around three hours on roads that wind through the interior; from Dompu town it is about 45 minutes. There is basic accommodation at the beach.
