Lasiana Beach

Lasiana Beach is the most accessible stretch of coast near Kupang, about eight kilometres northeast of the city centre. It is a long curve of white sand backed by lontar palms and casuarinas, with calm water most of the year. Weekends bring Kupang families out in force — there is a festive, relaxed atmosphere with food stalls, music, and children in the water. Weekday mornings are quieter.

The beach is not pristine by international standards — there is some litter and the facilities are basic — but it is genuine and unpretentious. The sunsets here are excellent, with Semau Island visible across the strait and the sky going through dramatic colour changes over the Timor Sea. It is the right place to sit with a cold beer and wait for the dark.
