Coral Beach

Rocky reef shore with live coral accessible to snorkellers

On the south and southwest side of the island, the shoreline gives way to exposed reef and live coral formations visible from the surface. This is where the serious snorkelling happens. The coral is not spectacularly diverse by Red Sea or Maldivian standards, but it is genuine and worth the visit — colourful fish, sea urchins, and the occasional ray.

The reef is most easily accessed from the beach near the Dariush Hotel complex or from points along the southwest coastal road. Bring your own gear — what's available for rent on the island is basic. The water is warm year-round, but the best visibility comes in cooler months when the Gulf is less turbid.
