Things to Do

Kish punches above its weight for a small island. The Greek Ship, a rusted cargo vessel stranded in the shallows off the southwest coast since 1966, is one of the more atmospheric sights — photogenic at sunset and good for snorkelling. The Karizak underground aqueduct is genuinely impressive: a 2,500-year-old water system that you can walk through, cool and dimly lit, a contrast to the glare outside. Harireh Ancient City has the remains of a medieval trading city with wind towers and a Portuguese fort.

Scuba diving and snorkelling are worthwhile — the Persian Gulf has decent coral, and the wreck makes for an easy dive. Dolphin-watching boat trips run from the harbour. The north beaches are the island's main attraction and reason enough to visit. A 56-kilometre coastal cycling path connects the main sights.
