The central market and the closest Duhok has to a tourist sight in the proper sense. Spread over several streets in the old centre, the bazaar sells the usual produce, spices, tea, household goods, and traditional Kurdish clothing — the wide-legged trousers and embroidered jackets you see older men wearing in the cafes nearby.
The food section is the highlight: pyramids of cardamom, sumac, fresh herbs, and ranges of pickles and preserves. Bakeries turn out flatbread from clay ovens at the back. Friday morning is busiest; many stalls close on Friday afternoon for prayers.
