The Ramon Visitors Center is the sensible first stop in Mitzpe Ramon. It explains what a makhtesh is, why Ramon is not a meteor crater, and how erosion carved this huge basin out of the Negev highlands.
The centre sits right on the rim, so the displays lead naturally to the view outside. It is especially useful before hiking or driving into the crater, where the landscape makes more sense once you know what you are looking at.
