Nakayama Shichiri is a scenic gorge along the Hida River near Gero, known for rocky river scenery, spring blossoms, azaleas, and autumn colour. The Takayama Line runs through the gorge, so the area is also popular with railway photographers looking for trains against a mountain-river backdrop.
It works best as a quiet nature break between baths and town sights. Go in spring or autumn if you can, when the gorge has the most colour.
