Endoji Shopping Arcade

Endoji is an old-school covered shopping arcade running for several hundred metres west of the Horikawa river, a five-minute walk from Shikemichi. The arcade is anchored on the north by Enmasu Shrine and on the south by Nagoya's oldest sweet shop — an unbroken commercial strip that has been here in some form since the 17th century.

The current arcade has weathered most of the postwar shifts in retail and now mixes long-running tofu shops, traditional sweet bakers, izakaya, two craft beer bars and a handful of contemporary boutiques. Friday and Saturday evenings see the most life. Far quieter than Osu and far smaller than Sakae, but a useful slice of older Nagoya street life. Marunouchi Station, a ten-minute walk.
