Funasaka has been brewing sake in the Sanmachi quarter since 1855 and remains one of the most welcoming of the town's six breweries for visitors. A small tasting bar at the front of the building lets you try five or six of the current line-up for a few hundred yen; English-speaking staff explain the styles and the brewing process.
The associated restaurant next door serves a sake-paired lunch and dinner using Hida beef and local mountain vegetables.
