The old town is small and entirely walkable — Sanmachi-suji, the Jin'ya, and the morning markets are all within ten minutes of each other and a five-minute walk from the train station. Bicycles can be hired at several shops near the station and are ideal for reaching Hida Folk Village and the Higashiyama walk.
For the Shokawa Valley (Shirakawa-go and Gokayama) and the Okuhida Onsen, the Nohi Bus terminal next to the train station has regular services. The Sanno Matsuri bus is a tourist hop-on, hop-off service that loops the main sights for a flat day rate.
