The smaller of Takayama's two morning markets, held every day until noon in the square in front of the Takayama Jin'ya. It is more obviously a farmers' market than the Miyagawa: most of the sellers are older women from villages around Takayama, with produce that changes with the season — wild mountain vegetables in spring, fresh tomatoes in summer, persimmons and chestnuts in autumn.
A few stalls sell pickled vegetables and home-made mochi. Less souvenir-oriented than the Miyagawa, and worth combining with a visit to the Jin'ya next door.
